New Patient appointment include more fields
When creating an appointment for a new patient, add the following fields: work phone, cell phone, preferred name, occupation, drivers license number, age/birthdate, referral source, insurance, emergency contact, special needs, medical alerts, drug allergies, note field, email address, etc. Would also like to be able to choose billing type and Fee Schedule. Would also like any of these fields not already in the family file to be added.
Thanks for the request!

I would like to see consistancy throughout all Dentrix Modules when entering an address. Why can't the city and state be auto-entered when entering a zip code? This works in the Family File, but not when creating a new patient appt in the Appt Book (or setting up Referral info). Been asking for this one for years also!

I only use new patient appt only if in a crunch. I start from the family file and create everything from there. The database of employers, insurances, referral sources are already set up, so most of the time it is just a few clicks and you are done. If they have insurance I start with the subscriber first then adding family members is a breeze. In special situations (such as divorced parents) I start with whoever the children live with. The one thing I do is change the status to non-patient and clear out the first visit date and the consent date. When the patient comes in I change the status to active and enter the current date. Really helps the flow when the patient actually comes in. What could be done is that the new patient window could be replaced with the new family window with all of the fields and under the status have new patient as an option to select or have the ability to choose a default status. Then when the patients status is changed to active then the current date is automatically entered in the consent date and first visit date fields. Eaglesoft may already have this ability but you have to remember to mark the subscriber as inactive as the reports and database show you have all of these active/new patients when you actually don't. Also, eaglesoft's new patient report will generate from the date the appointment was made and not when the patient actually came into the office. One more thing regarding Eaglesoft is that once patient/subscriber is unchecked as active....and then that person decides to come become a patient you have to make them active before you are able to schedule in scheduler when in fact they are not a patient until they actually come in to their appointment. Dentrix does not make you do this. It just warns you that their status is set to non patient. What eaglesoft does is slice things up a bit. The ability to add a subscriber /responsible party one time and attach to seperate accounts such as creating a Ortho account for a patient. Instead of having to reenter all of the information you just find that particular subscriber and simply attach. So both softwares have pros and cons. I vote for dentrix. In my opinion (as having the opportunity to work with both) dentrix is a better product. It is alot more customizeable to fit needs of your practice.

A place to have Referred by would be nice.

Instead of the basically useless pop-up that comes up when making an appointment (that also tells you you didn't add a birthdate-- when there is no place to add a birthdate)... have it come up to the regular patient information screen to begin with...and make them a REAL PATIENT to begin with... and be able to input a heck of alot more information. You can't do anything with a new patient until they are a new patient anyway. Checkout Eaglesoft to see how the competition does it awesome! Putting a NP in the appt line is easier than the ropes you have to jump.

Not holding my breath either. There are many basic fields that are still missing after years of requests. Is there any body out there listening. Maybe they spent all their time on the lovely graphics in the office assistant that no one uses.

How loud do we need to scream for this request. Been waiting for years. I'm still waiting for a place to add pharmacy information (just a couple of fields needed here).

This is a no brainer and should have been done along time ago. I stopped using the New Patient way of appointing and found it just as easier to take the time to do a whole family file because it didn't have the fields for getting the important information.

I agree that a few more fields available on a new patient appointment would be nice. I think the downside to utilizing the questionnaire to update the new patient is that it creates a family file before the patient shows up. Now this person is counted as a 'patient' in the database. what if they don't show up? now the number of new patients seen for the month is off and the number of active patients is off. You have to remember to archive/delete the patient file at this point. We don't need to know "everything" about them before they arrive. at some point you are spending too much time entering data on someone who hasn't even shown up yet, and it becomes wasted time if they don't show. alternate phone #s are nice, insurance info could be helpful to verify benefits

How long does a great idea need to sit around before it is applied to a dentrix update?

Having the Date of birth field makes logical sense when you convert them to active status on the family file you shouldn't have to copy & paste

We need to be able to add e-mail addresses to new patient info when they call. This allows us another way to contact new patients for reminders. The new patient e-mail should also be made available in the database for third party e-mail reminder systems!

Scheduling a new patient appointment ;would like to have the ability to customize the "New patient Information" to include email, etc. So 3rd party confirmation program can send email alerts, etc..

I agree that having a customizable list for new patients, because sometimes they they call in giving their informations but can not decide appointment time yet. With this list, we can check back when patient calls back and make appointments.

I agree that having a customizable list to go through when a new patient calls in, is crucial to efficiency. We have multiple people work the front desk, so to have a place to check our chosen requirements for an NP will help not only our co-workers but temps when they are here on occasion also. Following up if the NP's xrays are here, if the NP forms are here or being mailed or the patient is bringing with them etc.. We all know that consistency is the key to a well run office.

Certainly not to diminish this excellent suggestion, I wanted to suggest a few options that are currently possible.
First the obvious: Any extra information about the patient can be entered into the new patient appointment note. You can copy and paste to the correct locations later.
Otherwise, if you are using eCentral to host your website, direct your patients to your website to fill in a Patient Information and/or Health History Questionnaire online. After they submit the response, within Questionnaires, you choose Update Patient Information. It will recognize the response came from a new patient, and prompt you to match the patient with their appointment from the schedule. It will then create the Family File, and allow you to review and very quickly and easily populate their answers into their Family File and Medical Alerts.
See this demonstrated in the webinar "Going Paperless" (Article # 49541).
http://www.dentrix.com/resource-center, login as prompted. In the Search Box, type the number 49541. Once it begins playing, you can skip ahead to about minute 27:30 to the Questionnaires demonstration, or about 32:20 where working with new patients is specifically demonstrated. -

Yes, we need more fields in the new patient info.
E-mail, medical problems that may require prior clearance, insurance info. insured, ss# of insured and patient, dates of birth, etc. This should all be automatically imporatable into the patient's file once the come in for the first appointment. -
