How can we improve Dentrix?

Assign default provider for procedure codes and multi codes

Add the ability to attach specific procedure codes to certain providers for the default provider to use when a procedure code is posted. The user should be able to set up a procedure or multi-code to post for the patient's Prov1 (primary provider in the Family File), the patient's Prov2 (secondary provider in the Family File), or to a specific provider. This would provide the user with more options for posting procedures besides defaulting to the patient's Prov1 or to the provider selected in the Chart. This should include the ability to set up a multi-code for some procedures to default to Prov1 and some to default to Prov2. Wants to be able to use a multi code to enter procedures that are normally done by the dentist and the hygienist (recall exam). Would like the ability of assigning/attaching a provider to each procedure in a multi code. In the Chart, Ledger, and Appointment Book, when multi codes are used, the provider should default to the one selected (Chart provider selected, Ledger transaction entry provider selected, and provider of appointment).

Our Velscope exams are performed and charged out by the doctor(s) only. It would be much easier for me to add this to an initial appointment reason and NOT have to go in and change the provider in the ledger. It would also make it much easier to track production.

another front desk concern. sure, fix it. but you need to focus on making the back desk more efficient: charting, note taking, medical history. you ever heard of the kiss rule. keep it simple stupid.

This is possible now!!!! It's a 'hackish' workaround but you can assign a default provider via Continuing Care (Recall in EzDental). To do this you would first setup a custom Continuing Care under Continuing Care Setup in the Office Manager. Inside CC Setup you can specify a default provider (Prov1, Prov2, or Specific). From there, edit the procedure in Procedure Code Setup and attach your Auto Continuing Care type (created/edit earlier). And that’s it!!! If you want you can even customize this to you individual patients by assigning your custom Continuing Care type to the patient via the Family File. Once selected in the Family File you can modify the default provider so it is patient specific. Hope this helps anyone interested! BTY: It sure would be nice though if Henry Schein would add/update this feature to make it more accessible and less confusing.

This request is virtually the same as another (duplicate) that has a lot more votes (ie, attach proceedure to a provider rather than an appointment)

I agree!!!!! Would make our report so much more realistic! Please make this happen I would so appreciate it!

I totally agree. If an error is caught after EOM is completed it can't be corrected.
Even with Hyg double checking prod at EOD the error is not always caught...you see what you expect to see unless you slowly check, and that's the last thing they want to do EOD!!
Ins claims have to be re-sent w/ correct provider if not caught before EOD.

From a manager's point of view this would save us a lot of time at checkout and would help with accuracy on production reports! Great recommendation Darla!

I so agree. I would love to have hygiene codes default to hygiene provider, and eventually more than one hygiene provider. Maybe link the provider choices on the pt. screen to their appointment.

This is something I think that Eaglesoft has for at least 4+ yrs. When the Exm posted from the RDH appt .. it would default to the PRIM (dds) provider ... the xrays could be set to default to SECONDARY (Prov2) the RDH .. or the DDS if that's who's appointment it was attached to.

Bravo! We had the opposite occur. An analyst came in and practically got our hygienist fired for lack of production! Her numbers were going under the Doctors production. Had our Admnistrator not pointed out the flaw in the program's response, we may have had a terrible outcome. Dentrix is super for providing valuable information to the practice, but the information needs to correctly reflect actual production.

Yes!!! it would be great to assign a provider to a certain procedure code. It would save time at check out also would eliminate provider production error. In our office the Doctors will never perform D1110.

Thank You Dr. Shea!! I agree. It only makes sense if you are tracking your hygiene production. It would leave little room for erro. When you have 5 people posting, there is too much room for error!!!!!

This would be great for single Doctor practices, but would not work for multiple doctor and multiple hygienist practices.

Be able to attach a provider to a procedure code, this would allow the dentist to be the provider for the exams and the hygienist for the prophies and x-rays. Then a multicode for a routine cleaning/exam appt. could be used and set completed without having to change the provider. This would help prevent the fast checkout errors - production going to wrong provider, insurance claim with wrong provider, then a multiple step, time consuming, and agrravating correction!
