Well, yes I am aware of the templates, Ryan, but they are very cumbersome with a lot of keystrokes. Text expansion would be much easier. We will give the procedure note library idea more of a chance as it is similar to text expansion with preset auto text, but it also has to be editted each time it posts and you can only bring in one preset text rather than multiples if there was text expansion available.

Dr Visco - Clinical Notes has two options that are potentially much better than a note library. One is Clinical Note Templates, found at the right side of the Clinical Notes panel in Chart (see http://youtu.be/d-tkSygxW4M for a 4 min video showing creating a new template and applying it). The other option is to edit the procedure code and add a note that automatically copies into the Clinical Note (Office Manager | Maintenance | Practice Setup | Procedure Code Setup | highlight the Procedure Code category | Highlight a Procedure Code | Select Edit | in bottom-left select Edit Note button). Enter in the default text, and for When This Procedure Is Set Complete, select the option Copy to Clinical Note. Save and Close the dialog boxes. Now when you complete a procedure, it will auto create a note, auto type the tooth number or surface when applicable, and then enter your static text into the patient clinical note.
Having said that, I like your other word processor-like suggestions of auto-fill, text color or fonts, etc. You may want to add that comment or vote to the thread "Clinical Notes Font Size, Styles, Colors" (from the main page, click Charting, and then search for that name) -

I do not see the library of notes available in the clinical notes. Clinical notes needs what Word calls Auto Text or a phrase or word or even a few letters that can be typed and some text will then expand automatically. Also color coding, underlining, highlighting, caps, etc... should be available. Also the ability to sort and view one provider's notes, or notes with a certain word used at the beginning or in a myriad of other ways that would make information retrieval possible. Right now, it is very cumbersome to both enter and retrieve clinical notes.

While the Dentrix team continues to refine their library feature, I wanted to mention how useful text expansion software can be for routine data entry. The one I'm using right now is Phrase Express, and it's helped my efficiency quite a bit when processing insurance claims. It's a bit complicated at first, but the time savings are well worth it since your shortcuts can be used anywhere in Windows. I'd encourage anyone that's waiting for the built-in library feature to grow to check it out.

this is available. go to office manager, custom notes, then set up the custom notes for insurance, ledger, or patient charts. I use this feature daily. it save me a lot of time...... not that the carrier reads my notes! LOL I get kick backs all the time with questions from the carrier that are clearly in the remarks section of my claim form. It's hard to combat their tactics of delaying payment. I think you will really like this feature though!
